Many folks have refrigerators with built-in ice making capabilities whether it’s through the door or in the freezer compartment. But hold on to those ice-cube trays. Here’s why:
- Use them to pour that last little bit of juice (OJ, apple, V8, etc) into the trays and freeze. They add a nice slushy consistency to your smoothies.
- Pour vegetable stock in and use later to add to soups and stews.
- Lots of basil or other herbs leftover? chop, put in trays with water and freeze. Wa-lah! great to add to soups, stews and smoothies later on.
- Leftover cranberry relish (see an earlier post for a recipe that will have you eating it by the spoonful) – never fear! Spoon into trays and freeze to use later in smoothies (there’s a yummy cranberry smoothie recipe in an earlier post as well). Frozen gives it more of a milkshake texture
Do you still use ice-cube trays? What are your favorite uses?
