We’re all still here so – Happy Winter Solstice!

Today is officially the first day of winter, also known as the Winter Solstice. This is when the sun is at its lowest point above the horizon.

Traditionally, this was the time to hope you could live through the winter. Did you have enough put away to make it through? Starvation was common during the harsh winters. On the bright side, all the beer and wine was usually ready for drinking at this time.

It rarely snows here in the Carolinas. This picture is from last year. I’m wishing for a white Christmas this year. Love making cocoa, listening to Xmas music, wearing thick socks and sweaters, turning on the gas fireplace (a real one’s even better but alas, I don’t have a real fireplace), and curling up on the sofa under a cozy quilt with a cat for company and a great book to read.

This is a great time of year to reflect on the year and plan for the next. What did you accomplish this year? What are your goals for 2013?

Happy Winter!
